Dr. Schulz is the ninth president of Fullerton College. With 16 years of leadership experience in community college and higher education, Schulz began his career with NOCCCD in 2000 serving as SCE’s manager of Administrative services, three years as provost of NOCCCD’s School of Continuing Education, two years as Dean of Trades, Industrial and Career Technologies at Long Beach City College, as well as four years as the Dean of Instruction and Student Services. He has served as an adjunct professor at California State University at Fullerton’s College of Education. A certified public accountant, he has worked for the County of Orange and Vincent, Lloyd & Stutzman LLP. Schulz is an alumni of Fullerton College.

Jacqueline Rodarte

Jacqueline Rodarte (Board Member of the North Orange County Community College Board of Trustees)

Jacqueline is a teacher in the Anaheim school district and a member of the North Orange County Community College Board of Trustees. Previously, she was an intern at the White House Office of Presidential Personnell and worked on First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" program to get school kids more active, and was an aide to Anaheim City Council member Jose. F. Moreno. Ms. Rodarte also founded the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Student Center, a free tutoring program to all students, at Anaheim High School.

Mary is current President of Friends of the Arboretum at California State University at Fullerton, and a lecturer at CSUF. She ran the Future Teacher's Program. She is a retired district coordinator and principal at Sycamore Junior High School, former principal at Golden Hill Elementary, Nicolas Jr. High, and at George Key School. Mary holds a BA in History and MS in Special Education. Bernard - (Immediate-Past-President) - Assistant to the City Manager and Manager of Economic Development, City of Fullerton

Nicole attended Fullerton College before transferring to Cal State Fullerton where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology with a minor in Political Science and later received a Master's Degree in Business Administration.  Nicole is a registered planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and holds a real estate license with the California Department of Real Estate.  In her current role as Economic Development Manager for the City of Fullerton she is responsible for facilitating the growth and success of the business community. She plays an active role in the community development process by leading the City's Economic Development Action Team (EDAT), a group focused on limiting processing delays to enable businesses to open faster and easier. Nicole also provides local leadership for recruiting and retaining businesses by partnering with local universities, chambers of commerce, realtors, brokers, and business advocates to provide a welcoming and easy to access government process. Prior to joining the City of Fullerton, Nicole was a Project Manager with TRG Land, Inc., a land planning firm specializing in master planned project design and entitlement processing.  Nicole and her husband Steve, who also attended Fullerton College, have lived in Tustin since 2003.

Curtis Chan is President and CEO of two Fullerton based high technology marketing and public relations companies, CHAN & ASSOCIATES and COGNITIVE IMPACT, whose clients range from the Global Fortune 500 to venture capital funded startups. Mr. Chan's expansive background spans over three decades in ever increasing executive roles in operations, business development, engineering and sales/marketing in the entertainment, information technology and high technology industries. He has over twenty years of experience in brand development, management consulting, creative advertising and public relations. He is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (SLO), Mr. Chan is an Entrepreneur in Residence and Advisor for the Small Business Institute at California State University Fullerton; Advisor to the College of Engineering, Cal Poly SLO; Board of Director for the Spencer Hospice Foundation. He is a regularly featured speaker at many MBA and Doctorate level lectures around the country. He has presented and published over 30 papers worldwide along with co-authoring several books and a Contributing Editor for many US and international trade publications.

Robert Miranda directs the Financial Aid/Veterans Services programs at Fullerton College. Prior service includes: Financial Aid Officer, EOPS Assistant Director for Cerritos College, President to the District Management Group for NOCCCD and to the California Community College Student Financial Aid Administrators Association. He taught courses in Political Science and served as a mentor for the Puente Program at Fullerton College. Miranda has a Master's degree in Public Administration, a BA degree in Sociology, and an AA degree in Sociology. He has served at Fullerton Community College for 25 years and has been a board member to the Fullerton College Foundation since 2004.


IreneBRODEN_Dir.jpgIrene Shaw Broden  - Community Service Advocate

Irene Shaw Broden previously served as a board member, and on the Advisory Board of the Fullerton College Foundation.  Irene’s work with the Foundation’s Advisory Board has been outstanding.  She’s been the number one ticket seller for our Mustang Raffles and she is currently a contributing member of our Fundraising Committee.  She has been a resident of Fullerton since ‘before she was’ as her parents moved to town in 1921 and the city has meant a great deal to her. She attended both Fullerton High School and Fullerton Junior College and was employed by the Fullerton Fire Department. Both her children and grandchildren attended Fullerton College. She now supports the city’s residents as a member of the Board of Directors for Pathways of Hope (formerly Fullerton Interfaith Emergency Service), and as an alumna she supported the college as a member of the History and Steering Committees for the Fullerton College Centennial.

Melissa Davis believe that the years spent at Fullerton College shaped the academic and professional path that she is on today. From 2008-2010, while studying English Literature, Melissa served as an Associate Student Senator, and was the Vice Chair of the Planning & Research Committee, Secretary of the Elections Committee, and member of the Sustainability Committee. Additionally, she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and the Honors Program.

She graduated with an AA degree in Arts & Human Expression and transferred to University of California, Los Angeles where she earned a BA in English, minoring in Education. While at both colleges she worked Community Services Department at the City of Brea.  After which she accepted a full-time position as the Facility Reservations and Contract Class Specialist for Brea. Where as part of the dynamic and expansive Community Services Department allowed her to serve the public in a myriad of ways, mostly focusing on facilitating events, programming City activities, and assisting with the daily operation of the Community Center.

Melissa recently completed Cal State Fullerton’s Leadership Development Program and is considering obtaining a Master’s in Public Administration.

Forever grateful for the many opportunities she been given, Melissa know that Fullerton College is a gateway to her success.

Mr. Robert Allan Freeman, Esq. is a Southern California native with deep roots in the community. He is a veteran attorney with over 20 years of experience; a business owner; and a Judge Pro-Tem for the Los Angeles Superior Court.

He has served as a mediator for the Nevada Supreme Court and as the Chairman for the State Bar of Nevada Ethics Commission. He is a student mentor at CSUF; a Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America; a pro-bono Public Defender for the Shoshone/Paiute Sovereign Nation; and he has been repeatedly recognized and honored for his community service.

After graduating from West Liberty State College in West Virginia, Nick Fuscardo and his wife Susan moved to Orange County and began his first teaching/coaching job at Troy High School in Fullerton in 1968-69 (Frosh Football and JB Baseball). He was named Varsity Baseball Coach the next year; leading the Warriors to the Freeway League Championship and named Freelay League Coach of the Year. In 1981 Nick came to Fullerton College as Assistant Coach to the Hornet Baseball Coach Mike Sgobba. Then became Head Coach for Fullerton Baseball and served as Professor and Coach for 35 years. Being part of the Hornet family, having been mentored by the legendary Coach Hal Sherbeck, has been an important part of his life. “ONCE A HORNET, ALWAYS A HORNET!”

Gary Graves is a full-time professor at Fullerton College, a local entrepreneur, glass artist, and cyclist. Before teaching, he started and operated Graves Communications, LLC. He has worked with small businesses, credit unions, political candidates to bring his expertise in brand development, marketing, and technology management, to ultimately meet their goals. Gary has a Masters of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing and technology management and a Master of Arts in Modern Art History, Theory, and Criticism. Gary is a past President of the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce and was an Economic Development Commissioner in the city of Fullerton. In 2020, Gary will be completing his 10th year participating in the Aids Lifecycle. A 545-mile journey on a bike from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The charity ride benefits Aids Organizations and provides prevention education and services to those who have Aids/HIV. Gary teaches in the Business Communications, Small Business / Entrepreneurship and Creativity, APP design, Public Speaking, and other classes in the Business Division at Fullerton College and invites the business world to get involved in his classes. Gary's interests include helping our students through our FC’s Business Career Closet, Hornet Entrepreneurs, and Hornets Abroad International.

Robert Jaurequi has been affiliated with the K-12 and California Community Colleges for 35 plus years.  After teaching in the K-12 and California Correctional Juvenile system he started counseling and teaching at Cerritos College before taking a counseling position at Fullerton College in 1988. He is retired from Fullerton College

Robert has been a consultant and trainer for Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company in many educational institutions in the US and Canada. His trainings have covered:  student retention, diversity in education, team building, conflict resolution, leadership styles and interpersonal skills.

He’s been an Adjunct Professor for Teaching Credential and Masters Programs. He was a consultant for the Georgia Project in the state of Georgia.

He is currently working as a consultant for the Career Ladders Project, Oakland, CA. The Career Ladders Project (CLP) works to strengthen educational and career advancement for Californians through research, policy initiatives, and direct assistance to K-12, community colleges, workforce and community partners.


DarleneJensen.jpgDarlene Jensen - Retired Director of Student Affairs

Darlene Jensen joined the Fullerton College (FC) Administrator Emeritus ranks, upon her retirement from FC/NOCCCD in September 2015.  She began in 1985 as the Student Activities Coordinator where she oversaw all of the activities for Associated Students, Inter-Club Council, and Student Affairs, coordinated the Men & Women of Distinction Awards Banquet, Teacher of the Year Process, and assisted with the annual Commencement activities. From 1992 – 1995, Darlene continued in FC Student Affairs management positions including Supervisor and Interim Director, followed by serving as the Director of Student Activities/Student Affairs and Commencement Coordinator for her final 20 years. During 2012 - 2014, Darlene also planned and directed the FC Student Affairs-related Centennial events and assisted with the College's Centennial Gala Celebration. Prior to her arrival at FC, Darlene served as the Coordinator of Student Activities at Santa Ana College for 6.5 years, where she began her professional career in Student Services.

Darlene holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications – Public Relations, with a minor in Psychology from Cal State Fullerton. She graduated Summa Cum Laud from Cal State Long Beach where she received her Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration and the Dean’s Award for graduating #1 in her class. Prior to that time, Darlene graduated from Santa Ana College with two degrees, and completed her remaining transfer courses at Fullerton College.

Darlene has enjoyed being a Hornet for the past 30 years, volunteering for the FC Foundation (FCF) for the past 5 years, serving as a FCF Advisory Board Member for 2 years, and as a FCF Scholarship Reader for Spring 2016.  She desires to stay "Connected to FC" through serving on the FC Foundation Board of Directors, and in whatever capacity offered.

Stephen Laipply, is the Head of U.S. iShares Fixed Income Strategy and a member of the Systematic Fixed Income Strategy team at BlackRock, Inc.  He has authored and co-authored a number of articles on fixed income investing, some of which have been published in periodicals such as the Journal of Portfolio Management, the Journal of Index Investing, the Journal of Indexes and the Journal of Trading, among others. Prior to joining BlackRock in 2009, Steve was a senior member of the Interest Rate Structuring and Strategic Solutions groups at Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he helped to develop investment and risk management solutions for institutional clients. Steve earned a BS degree in finance from Miami University, and an MBA in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Steve and his wife Kathleen and their three children reside in San Francisco and have been supporters of the Fullerton College Foundation for over fourteen years.


Luminarias_2.jpgMarwin Luminarias (F.C. Classified Senate President) 

Marwin works in the Vice President of Instruction’s Office as the Curriculum Specialist. As senator and then president of the Classified Senate, he helped start the Kindness Campaign, which features students and staff who showed random acts of kindness to others.

During his time as a student at Fullerton College, he served as an executive officer with the Associated Students and worked with the Office of Special Programs to support Future Teachers, STEM Cohorts, and the Robotics Team. He was Honors Program certified and recognized as a Man of Distinction before transferring to Cal State Fullerton in 2014. After returning to Fullerton College in 2015 as a Classified employee he served as CSEA Rep for the Students Success Committee, President’s Advisory Council, and Webmaster for CSEA Chapter 167. Marwin is currently a member of the Pathways Steering Committee, co-chair for Guided Pathways Workgroup 1, and co-advisor for Alpha Gamma Sigma epsilon chapter.

Marwin believes in Fullerton College’s mission to support students in their education journey wherever that may lead. As a DACA recipient, he is grateful for the NOCCCD and Fullerton College for bravely supporting ‘Dreamers’ in their community. Marwin is now studying part-time at the University of Redlands and plans to eventually teach at Fullerton College.

Ethan enlisted in the U.S. Army after 9-11 and served at Arlington National Cemetery as a casket bearer and a guard of honor at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

After serving for three years, he moved to Southern California and enrolled in the Fullerton College Radio/TV/Film Production Program where he believes he learned from some of the greatest professors in the world and was encouraged to continue to chase his dreams and given the tools to do so while transitioning back into civilian life and learned the requirements of the academic world. During his first semester he was elected as Associated Student Body President and Student Trustee the following year.

After graduating in 2009, he transferred to Biola University to pursue Mass media Management and Film Producing. He went on to produce at KTLA Channel 5 Morning News and start his own film production company over the next ten years.These pursuits have given him a unique perspective, flexibility and freedom to give back to the community at Fullerton College.

Isabel Oropeza - UBS Financial Services, Branch Administrative Manager

Isabel Oropeza graduated from Fullerton College with high honors and went on to study at Pepperdine University.  With a BA in Organizational Communications, she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2013.  She has been working at UBS Financial Services Inc. since 2013.  She started as a Client Services Associate, and in November 2015 was promoted to her current position of Branch Administrative Manager.  She currently holds the following federal finance licenses- Series 7, 66, 9, and 10. While at Fullerton College she was the President of MECHA, part of the Honors Program, Latina Leadership Program, the Student Director for the Mendez vs. Westminster Play, The First Day of Classes and served on the planning committee of KinderCaminata. She was also involved with the Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, Dia de los Muertos Celebration and served as Chair of the first STEM Conference planning Committee. While at Pepperdine University, she participated in several internships such as the Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission, Chivas USA, Fox Sports West, and the Ronald McDonald House (in Buenos Aires, Argentina). Her senior year, she interned with the Los Angeles Lakers as a Community Relations Seasonal assistant. Since she graduated, she has continued to volunteer with a local nonprofit, Padres Against Cancer, since she is a firm believer that giving back to the community is essential.

CarolynReeves.jpgCarolyn Reeves - Vice President, Learning & Development, SchoolsFirst FCU

Carolyn Reeves is a senior learning and development leader with more than 20 years of experience directing the creation, promotion, and delivery of strategic talent development solutions. In her current role as Vice President of Learning & Development for SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, Carolyn oversees the organization’s teammember and management development programs, which encompass service skills, technical/operational training, professional growth, and leadership strategies. She also administers the Credit Union’s Teammember Engagement Program and facilitates organizational meetings and planning sessions.

Prior to joining the Credit Union, Carolyn worked with a wide range of organizations designing and delivering learning programs in a variety of topics, including management development, team building, service, sales, change management, performance management and many others.

Carolyn’s holds a Master of Science in Instructional Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certificate. She is also a 2017 graduate of the Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE) program.

Carolyn is passionate about athletics and she spends her free time riding and running on the local Orange County, CA trails. She volunteers in the local cycling community by leading rides and coaching beginner women and girls. She currently resides in Laguna Niguel with her husband Scott.

Adrian Tanakeyowma

RajenVurdien_headshot2.jpgDr. Rajen Vurdien

Dr. Rajen Vurdien has over 20 years of experience in the California Community College System. He has had the distinct and unique experience of holding positions of utmost responsibility in four flagship districts of the system, both single college and multi college, and both apportionment funded and basic aid. Dr. Vurdien retired in February 2019 as Superintendent-President and Chief Executive Officer of Pasadena City College. Prior to that he was President of Fullerton College, North Orange County Community College District for five years, Vice President for Instruction at Saddleback College, South Orange County Community College District, Mission Viejo, CA for six years. For four and a half years, he was Dean of Instruction overseeing Language Arts and Physical Education at Long Beach City College. 

Dr. Vurdien was born and raised on the island of Mauritius. He went to college in France. After an M.A. degree, he went back to Mauritius to teach English and French. He continued his studies with a Graduate degree in Teaching at the Mauritius Institute of Education. He came to the USA in 1985 and attended Temple University as a graduate/teaching assistant, earning a M.Ed. and a Ph.D. in Psychology of Reading and completed the coursework for a second Ph.D. in School Psychology. He also has an MBA from Long Island University and in 2002, completed the Management Development Program at Harvard University. He also attended workshops for college presidents offered by the American Association of Community Colleges, and the Community College League of California, in addition to participating in two three-day seminars for experienced presidents and fundraising for presidents at Harvard University. He was also a Wheelhouse Fellow of the first class of College Presidents at University of California, Davis. In addition, he has chaired three accreditation visiting teams.

His teaching career spanned the whole range from K to graduate school, and administrative experience in 2-year as well as 4-year colleges and international organizations.

Dr. Vurdien was active at local, state and national levels. He was on the Executive Board of the Pasadena Bio-Science Foundation. He was a trustee of the Buena Park City Library District, served as a mentor in the Association of California Community Colleges mentor program. He was a member of the Professional Development Commission, and the International Education Commission of the American Association of Community Colleges.
